Staying on Track with Your Health & Fitness Goals During Christmas
How to Maintain Your Health & Fitness Goals This Christmas
Staying on track with your health and fitness goals during Christmas can be tricky, especially when festive food and social gatherings are in full swing. With the holiday season, it’s all about balancing indulgence with consistency. That’s why I swear by the 80:20 rule—80% of the time, focus on nutritious food and staying active, and 20% of the time, enjoy the holiday treats without guilt.
Focus on the 80:20 Rule for Christmas Fitness
The festive season is filled with indulgences, but you don’t have to ditch your fitness for mums goals altogether. On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I allow myself to enjoy the festivities and indulge in delicious food with my family. But for the rest of the month, I keep things balanced—getting in my steps and enjoying healthy meals to stay energised and on track. This way, I can enjoy Christmas playdates and family activities while maintaining a healthy balance.
Stay Active Over the Festive Period
One of my top tips for staying on track with your holiday fitness is staying active throughout December. Even if it's a brisk walk or some yoga, movement keeps me energized and helps balance out the extra indulgence. I personally love to exercise on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, and I make it a tradition to get some exercise in before I relax with my family. For mums, this could be a perfect time to get in a workout during your Christmas playdates with the kids or enjoy some solo time for yoga or cycling.
Keep Hydrated and Stick to Healthy Portions
While Christmas indulgence is inevitable, staying hydrated and focusing on healthy portions is key to feeling your best. I make sure to eat well-balanced meals and stay hydrated throughout the day, which helps me keep up with the energy needed for family activities and Christmas playdates. This approach allows me to enjoy the treats without compromising how I feel.
Stress-Free Christmas Health Tips
Above all, Christmas should be about enjoying the moment. Don’t stress over the extra calories or worry about undoing your hard work. Focus on the 80% healthy habits, stay active, and indulge in the 20% of the time without guilt. After all, Christmas fitness doesn’t have to be about perfection—it’s about enjoying a healthy balance that works for you.
