  • Apple cider vinegar has various healthful properties, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. What’s more, evidence suggests it may offer health benefits, such as aiding weight loss, reducing cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels, and improving the symptoms of diabetes.

  • This is trial and error. But a good place to start is by downloading my app and signing up to the Fit Mama subscription; here you will get bespoke calories to work towards.

Once you have downloaded the app, stick with this number of calories for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks if you have lost weight then continue on these calories, if you haven’t then decrease by 100 calories. However, for more advice please check out my online programmes.

  • In the case of a pregnant women, there is no need to ‘eat for two’. However, during the last trimester you will want to increase your calories by between 200-400 calories. The main thing is to listen to your body, if you are hungry then fill your body with good whole food. These extra calories consumed you may want to get from complex carbohydrates such as potatoes, brown rice, brown pasta and fats such as milk, yogurt and cheese. This will ensure you are getting enough calcium.

  • BMI is a measure that can allow us to check if we are a healthy weight for our height. It allows for natural variations in body shape, giving a healthy weight range for a particular height. Although useful for most people, BMI doesn’t work for everyone. It is not suitable for young children or older people. It’s also not very useful if we have high muscle volume. The heavier muscles will push up the BMI measurement. For instance, heavily muscled ruby players have ‘obese’ BMIs, even though they are not carrying excess body fat. To calculate BMI weight (in kg) is divided by height (in metres) squared. To calculate BMI, take the weight (kg) and divide it by height (m). Then, divide that number once again by height (m). A BMI of less than 18.5 is considered under weight, a BMI between 18.5 and 25 is considered healthy. A BMI of over 25 is considered as overweight. A BMI of over 30 is defined as obese.

  • Traffic light colours can help us get the balance right by helping us to choose between products and keep a check on the amount of foods high in fat, sugars and salt that we are eating. We can use the signpost labelling to help put us in control, so we should look out for the colours on the front of food packs. Making the healthy choice isn’t always easy- sometimes there seems to be so much to remember. But with traffic light colours we just need to go for as many greens as we can and avoid choosing too many reds- to make healthier choices.

  • As mentioned above use my calorie counter in my app. This takes into the account your activity levels too. It really is very simple. To lose weight we need to be in a calorie deficit. Less calories consumed than we burn.

  • Again, exercise is only a small part of it. Nutrition is very important. So providing you have your nutrition on track, I would aim for 10,000 steps every day to start with. If you are a newbie to exercise then I would start slowly by 1-2 workouts per week in addition to daily 10,000 steps. If you want to start your journey to optimum health and fitness, then check out my Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness App.

  • I personally do not advocate fast weight loss as the chances of keeping it off can be reduced. However, if you do want to lose weight quickly then simply create a larger calorie deficit by either/both moving more and eating less.

  • Upon downloading Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness app you will have access to the new Fit in 30 challenge. This challenge has been designed to kick start your exercise routine. This challenge is not suitable for pregnant and ladies less than 16 weeks postpartum (or have not done any exercise since having your children/child). Please refer to the postnatal programme within the app first.

  • Upon signing up to Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness you will get access to the specialist postnatal programme. Mari Carmen has designed this with her expert knowledge, along with specialist postnatal Pilates and Yoga coaches. • Every workout on the app lists what equipment you need. There are both home and gym workouts designed for the busy mum. The majority of home workouts include dumbbells and resistance bands. However, you will see kettlebell and barbell workouts too, these pieces of equipment are not essential.

  • If you are new to strength work start with a low dumbbell weight. A good indication as to whether you are lifting the right weight is if you get to the end of a set able to do 2 or 3 more reps then increase the weight for the next set. As you become stronger you will want to increase the size of the weight to ensure you are challenging yourself.

  • On-demand workouts are pre-recorded workouts of Mari Carmen and other trainers on the app carrying out a workout with you. It will feel like they are with you, which is super motivating! The workouts are videos of example exercises put together to make a programme; you will find a beginners and advanced gym programme within the app.

  • Finding the time to exercise as a busy mum can be a challenge. However, your workout does not have to be over 30 minutes long. A simple 15 minute express workout is just as good. Doing something is better than doing nothing at all. All of Mari Carmen Fitness’s programmes have been designed for the busy mum. You will find various quick on-demand workouts that can be done at home with your children on the Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness app!

  • The main thing here is to not try anything new. If you have never exercised before getting pregnant then starting an intense exercise regime is not recommended. However, gentle exercise like pregnancy yoga, pregnancy pilates and resistance band workouts are perfectly safe. Focus on building the strength in the pelvic floor and core. Mari Carmen offers pregnancy personal training sessions and various pregnancy safe workouts within the Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness app.

  • While it is common to want to see visible results straight away, quick fixes are not sustainable and do not work. Progress can appear at different stages and is dependent on a number of lifestyle factors. So it is hard to determine when you will see results. With this being said there are a number of things you can do assess progress. Setting specific goals is a great way to stay motivated and to help measure progress. Another good way to assess progress is to take other measurements like body measurements and progress photos. Within the Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness app you can record your progress by adding progress photos and body measurements.

  • The programs in the app are not customised to accommodate injuries or health concerns that could be aggravated by low, moderate or high-intensity physical exercise. Your health and wellbeing is our highest priority and we would hate for you to feel any further discomfort or potentially prolong your recovery.

For this reason, if you have a pre-existing injury, we recommend that you seek clearance from a healthcare professional prior to beginning any new exercise program.

If you have been cleared by a relevant health professional we are here to help you with the right and safe exercise programme to start with. Get in touch with our team for support.

If you are looking for different serving sizes, for example, ounces instead of grams, check out some of the other items in the search results as this may give you different serving sizes for the same food.

  • Those users on the Fit Mama subscription calories are formulated based on the answers given within the questionnaire upon downloading Fit Mama powered by Mari Carmen Fitness app. Calories are based on the user's BMR (basal metabolic rate), which is the amount of energy expended at rest. Within the questionnaire the client is asked how active they are, this then determines how many calories the client needs to maintain weight. To achieve a calorie deficit (weight loss) then reduce this value by 10% and for a calorie surplus increase this value by 10%.

If you are looking for further support and guidance then check out the bespoke online training programs within Fit Mama powered by the Mari Carmen Fitness app.

  • There is little evidence of to increase in calories within the first and second trimesters. However, if you have applied a deficit to your daily calorie intake then increase this by 10% to achieve maintenance calories. During the third trimester, you may need to increase your calories by 200 depending on activity levels. During pregnancy, it is very important to focus on a balanced diet inclusive of all food groups to ensure you and your baby get all the vitamins and minerals you need.
