4 Diet Myths The Fitness Industry Sells You

In this blog, I am to dispel four myths which the diet culture and fitness industry have falsely sold you over the years. If you are ready to take back control in 2022 and invest in your health and fitness then you will want to read this.

We are all aware that every industry has its up and downs. However, over the years the fitness industry has been guilty of false information and unachievable results. As a coach for women, this is very worrying and disappointing to see. Social media is a lot to blame for this with young fitness influencers creating unrealistic programmes, which a mother cannot sustain. Don’t be fooled by the filtered and angled Instagram image, I bet they do not look like this in real life.

  1. You do not need to spend LOADS on supplements and diet foods. Simply eat the colours of a rainbow, fresh fruit, veggies and lean proteins. If you have a balanced diet full of colour you will get most of the vitamins and minerals you need from your food. Add in a good multivitamin and jobs a good un. Focus on what your body needs, if you struggle to get enough protein in your diet then pick up a good vegan protein. I am loving Huel at the moment, their salted caramel is delicious and it’s reasonably priced.

  2. You do not need to cut out all the foods you enjoy and remove carbs. Honestly, the amount of women who approach me for support and say these exact words is huge. Don’t get me wrong in order to lose weight (if that is your goal) there needs to be some restrictions. But this is created by reducing the amount of food you consume. If you love potatoes with your dinner then there is no reason why you cannot continue to do this, just reduce the amount you are having. Simple.

  3. You do not need a brand new workout every week. We are always looking for the greatest invention, not just in life but in fitness too. Why reinvent the wheel when we know it works. The same applies when it comes to your workout. I would recommend changing your workouts every 6 weeks by either changing load, range of motion, decreasing rest period etc. When it comes to choosing a fitness regime, choose something you know you will enjoy. Start small and build frequency gradually.

  4. The fitness influencer you are following on Instagram probably doesn’t look that way and probably doesn’t have life sorted all the time. Stop comparing yourself with something that doesn’t exist. Instagram makes us all believe that we have to strive for perfection, this is a load of BS and frankly is dangerous. Don’t forget people only share what they want you to see! The fitness influencer is not motivated every day, does eat cake, and misses workouts and drinks.
